Noel Curran heavily involved in every decision regarding Eurovision.

“Eurovision” is certainly a brand that every company related to media would love to own, and Noel Curran knows that better than anyone else. After all, it is his wife Eimear Quinn that won the contest back in 1996 representing Ireland.

Since then, the programme has certainly developed, becoming the most important music event in Europe, while at the same time EBU managed to sell the concept to the United States of America and have NETFLIX shoot a movie under its name.

Is there anything else a director general would dream
of while being in charge of the EBU?

Of course not, but in the case of Noel Curran the “dream” became a “nightmare” on the  night of  the 18th of May 2019 : Several mistakes of the organising committee turned the event into a fiasco, while the bad press that followed in all major media infuriated EBU's director general.

The stroke that broke the camel's back, was when the official website eurovision.tv revelled, 24hours before the announcement, that Rotterdam will host next year's event.

It is then that Noel Curran decided that every major decision related to Eurovision must have his approval. Moreover, he made clear to everyone involved that he would not allow any more mistakes. After all, it is the participating broadcasters that are paying for the event and Noel Curran made clear to the  organising committee that their role is to protect their interests and this is what he expects of them.
